It is impossible to talk about how engaged a student is without first considering how engaging the teacher is. The presence and voice of a teacher is what gives students an access to ideas that would otherwise remain inaccessible and closed. The teacher’s voice is their main tool of communication and yet it is often the part of the teachers craft that is neglected and left to chance.
Tom can work with both individual teachers or groups of teachers to develop their vocal skills, to help teachers master their vocal range, protect the longevity of the teachers voice under the extreme vocal demands of the teaching profession, and to help facilitate the voices of their students in the process.
In his role as the Head of Voice at The Laurus Trust, Tom has developed and led an approach to help teachers unlock their own voice, develop their presence in the classroom, and to speak to their students with clarity, authenticity, and command. He has worked extensively across 7 schools and academies across the Stockport and Greater Manchester region.
Dream it
Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.
